John’s Landing Neighborhood
The 1909 Classic Bungalow overlooking John’s Landing underwent a significant transformation as part of a major renovation project by JTR Architect. Initially resembling a small Greek Temple, the homeowners, contemplating a move after 30 years, opted for an extensive renovation. JTR Architect, having previously collaborated with them on a kitchen renovation in 1998, was engaged to explore the possibilities.
The project involved expanding the living room, dining room, and primary bedroom, along with adding a second bathroom on the upper floor. A seismic upgrade was incorporated for safety. Deep bay 'pop-outs' were introduced in these spaces, providing an expansion of the main living areas. The front porch was partially enclosed to create a charming reading nook. The living room pop-out features a gas fireplace with built-ins and ceramic tile surround, accompanied by handcrafted leaded art glass windows and hutch doors for historic charm and meticulous detailing.
The remodel, blending modern functionality with timeless charm, exemplifies the enduring partnership between the client and JTR Architect, seamlessly showcasing the evolution of their home over the decades.
