Midcentury Modern Renovation
This 1970s ranch-style home underwent a transformative journey, fusing modern aesthetics with natural beauty. JTR Architect addressed spatial challenges including the removal of a colossal fireplace and reconfiguring the living room, dining room, and bedroom wing. The redesign modernized the interior, framing views of the Japanese-inspired landscape and the Cascade Foothills beyond through floor-to-ceiling picture windows.
Vaulted ceilings, light shelves, and red radiant concrete floors are featured in the living room and primary bedroom. Oregon white oak floors flow from the dining room to the bedroom hallway and gallery. A workout room and a new garage were also incorporated into the design.
A kitchen modernization project has recently been completed. European-style cabinets incorporate rich gray tones and walnut finishes. Honed marble countertops and modern appliances are featured throughout. A window-lined nook and bread-making areas have a vaulted ceiling emulating the living room design. A triple sliding glass door connects the kitchen to the outdoor terrace.
This mid-century gem, originally fragmented, now seamlessly blends modern aesthetics with natural elements, standing as a testament to thoughtful design—a harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape.
